Getting Started with the Lyngsoe Intelligent Material Management System Interface
SirsiDynix and Lyngsoe together offer a floating collection management solution with their SirsiDynix Symphony and Lyngsoe Intelligent Material Management System (IMMS) interface.
What is IMMS?
Lyngsoe IMMS is a specialized floating collection management system. The following is a summary of its key features:
•
Track items down to a physical location within the library while they are not checked out |
•
Distribute returned items intelligently based on available shelf space, number of copies, and current stock at each library |
•
Make copy management determinations to save on transportation costs |
•
Ensure even distribution of copies within a title |
•
Support library staff in the processes of picking and shelving items |
•
Prevent and detect item handling errors |
•
Generate overview reports for daily activity follow-ups and general management information |
IMMS can support several collection and hold management features of SirsiDynix Symphony through this interface. To perform these tasks, SirsiDynix Symphony and IMMS communicate catalog and hold information with one another as these transactions take place.
SirsiDynix Symphony setup
The SirsiDynix Symphony interface with IMMS is a pay-for feature: if you are interested in making these features available to your library, contact your SirsiDynix representative. Both SirsiDynix Symphony and IMMS must be configured to use the interface.
The following features are the SirsiDynix Symphony components of the interface with IMMS:

Differences in WorkFlows
Once you have completed the setup of the SirsiDynix Symphony and IMMS interface, you may notice some differences in the WorkFlows client.
Absence of the Trap Holds wizard
The Trap Holds Wizard no longer shows in WorkFlows. The functions of the Trap Holds wizard are covered by IMMS.
Check Item Status wizard flow
The order of underlying processes of the Check Item Status Wizard have changed. Hold management takes place first before IMMS handles the calculation of the item's destination. Because of the role of IMMS in these processes, options to receive and put items in transit within the Check Item Status wizard have been removed.
Expansion of transit wizards' functionality
The Pending Transits Wizard and Receive Transit Wizard can now process item transits taking place physically within library buildings or locations.
